How To Make Your Own Christmas Decorations From Old Book Pages - DIY Tutorial

Making your own Christmas decorations from old book pages is easy and fun. It can be an activity for all family, plus it’s really cheap.

For making the ornament you see above you’ll need:

  • Some old book pages (mine are from a 30 years old politics book);

  • Scissors;

  • Glue;

  • Hole puncher;

  • Twine;

  • Wire, but this is optional.

How you do it:

  • First, you’ll need to cut out 5 paper strips, like you see in Step 2;

  • Then you’ll glue them all together at one end, like you see in Step 3;

  • Next, you’ll glue them at the other end;

  • You’ll get something like you see in Step 4;

  • Then you will punch some holes with the hole puncher at both ends;

  • And finally, you’ll put the twine through those holes;

  • It’s up to you now how you’ll decorate the ornament.

This ornament is probably the easiest one to make.

You’ll need:

  • Book pages, again;

  • A Christmas tree template (you can draw one yourself or just google one, download it and print it);

  • Scissors;

  • A stapler;

  • Either a hole puncher or some glue;

  • Twine.

How you do it:

  • First, you’ll cut out the Christmas tree shapes. Personally, I chose to cut out 5 of them;

  • Then you’ll put them all together like you see in Step 2;

  • Next, you’ll staple the shapes together in the middle. You’ll get something like you see in Step 3;

  • Finally, you can either punch a hole for the twine, or you can glue it. It’s up to you.

These ornaments are easy to make too.

What you’ll need:

  • Book pages;

  • Circle and square shape templates;

  • Scissors;

  • Glue;

  • Ribbon or some twine;

  • Optional, some bauble hangers. I took mine from some old ornaments I had.

How you do it:

  • Cut out the circle and square shapes. I think I cut out about ten of each, but you can do more.

  • Next, you can do two things:

    - you can either glue the shapes together in the middle, like I did with my diamond-shaped ornament, or

    - you can roll up a piece of book page and then you’ll glue the shapes to it; I glued five on one side and five on the other;

  • Finally, you can use a hole puncher to punch a hole (obviously) at the end of the ornament and then put through it the ribbon or the piece of twine. Or you can simply glue the bauble hangers like I did. And, of course, you can decorate the ornaments even more if you want to :).

This ornament is fairly easy to make, but it can get a bit messy.

What you’ll need:

  • Book pages;

  • Glue;

  • A piece of sponge;

  • A styrofoam or plastic bauble (you can find these at Arts & Crafts stores);

How you do it:

  • You rip the book pages to pieces (LOL);

  • Next, you apply some glue to the bauble with the sponge;

  • Then you glue a piece of paper to it;

  • Repeat until you’ve covered the entire bauble. And there you have it! If you want you can also apply some glitter to it and decorate it however you feel like. I didn’t have any glitter, so I just left my bauble simple.

Now this might look complicated, but it’s really not. It’s very easy to make, but it does take a bit of time and patience to get it done.

What you’ll need:

  • An old book;

  • Things to decorate it with;

  • A glue gun or some strong glue.

How you do it:

  • First, you fold the first page of the book like you see in Step 1;

  • Then you fold it again like you see in Step 2;

  • Next, you fold the little corner of the page like you see in Step 3;

  • Then, that little corner has to go under the folded page like you see in Step 4 and Step 5;

  • You repeat the steps above with all the pages of the book until it forms a full circle like you see in Step 7 and Step 8;

  • Next, you need to glue together the first page and the last page so that the mini Christmas tree can stay put;

  • Finally, you decorate it however you wish to. There’s no limit here :).

And if my instructions are a bit confusing (sorry) here’s a YouTube video that shows you exactly how it’s done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKvPJljPiYQ&t=102s.

Step 2

The Christmas wreath you see above is, again, very easy to make. Just like in the case of the mini Christmas tree you only need a bit of time and patience.

What you’ll need:

  • Book pages;

  • A styrofoam wreath;

  • Twine;

  • A pen or pencil;

  • A glue gun.

How you do it:

  • First you take the twine and glue one end of it to the styrofoam wreath.

  • Next you wrap the twine around the wreath until you cover it all (yes, this takes some time);

  • After you’re done wrapping you glue the end of the twine on the back of the wreath so it can stay into place;

  • Next you take some book pages and rip them in two;

  • Then with the help of the pen you’ll mold the book page like you see in Step 2;

  • Finally you glue the book pages to the wreath however you want;

  • And, of course, it’s up to you how you choose to decorate it. You can see in the images above how I did mine.

This is all. I hope you enjoyed this DIY tutorial and I hope my instructions aren’t very confusing. If you have problems in doing any of the crafts above, don’t hesitate to DM me on Instagram at @anareads. I’ll be happy to help you!
